Think Ahead

by Tom Swift

By now the benefits of preparation should be clear: being ready is a singular stress-remover.

Preparation: being ready to leave on time; being ready to pay a debt; being ready to eat your meals; being ready to lead, to teach, to learn; being ready to allow life to unfold as it will.

Think even of the simple act, which you experienced this week, otherwise unremarkable, in which you ran out of dish washing soap. You placed the empty bottle in recycling and pulled from your overstock shelf the new supply you had purchased a week ago in anticipation of this moment. Sigh.

A minute of preparation today is two minutes of angst avoided tomorrow.

Prepare to write. Prepare to lift. Prepare to die. Prepare to live.
